There are two opportunities this weekend to hear some great music at UTC's Roland Hayes Concert Hall. On Friday evening, November 7, our second Faculty Concert will feature pianist David Walters performing a varied program of classical and jazz works. The first half will feature the music of Scarlatti, Chopin and Hindemith, enabling David to show off his "legit" chops. After intermission, the David Walters Trio will perform jazz standards from Gershwin to Brubeck. David's combo will be joined by guest artists Clint Schmitt and India Galyean. Clint's saxophone artistry is well-known in the Chattanooga community. Ms. Galyean is a vocalist who performed for several years in such New York venues as the Iridium, Irving Plaza, and Russian Tea Room, and won the prestigious Back Stage Bistro Outstanding Vocalist Award. Friday's concert will begin at 8:00 p.m. There is no admission charge and we hope our guests will join us after the concert for some refreshments in the FAC lobby. On Sunday evening, November 9, at 7:00 p.m., UTC's and Chattanooga State's opera theater programs and the UTC Orchestra will present Gilbert and Sullivan's comic operetta "H.M.S. Pinafore." This is the second year of operatic collaboration between the campuses, through the work of Jan Cochrane, UTC Opera Theatre director, and Darrin Hassevoort, director of Chattanooga State's opera theatre program. The orchestra will be under the baton of Gary Wilkes. Sets and lighting are under the direction of Kim Renz. Pinafore is a perennial favorite and promises to be just as delightful as last April's presentation of "The Mikado", another G & S classic. Tickets for the production are $5.00 and may be purchased from the Fine Arts Center box office. Please join us on Friday and Sunday evenings for these fine events. Lee Lee D.
