Yes, you can have COBOL do this...of course, I would suggest you do this in the JCL (or CMD file if running on-line). To do it, you need to set the parms in your ASSIGN clause to the values you need. SELECT BINFILE ASSIGN TO "BINFILE,,B" Where 'B' denotes that you want the file to be binary. This is in the manual on page 6-35 (if you have a COBOL manual that's as old as mine), and you can also find this info at: http://www.docs.hp.com/cgi-bin/doc3k/B3150090013.11820/1 Good luck, Ray Shahan "There is so much good in the worst of us, and so much bad in the best of us, that it behooves none of us to talk about the rest of us" --Robert Louis Stevenson? > -----Original Message----- > From: Keven Miller [SMTP:[log in to unmask]] > Sent: Thursday, October 09, 2003 3:42 PM > To: [log in to unmask] > Subject: [HP3000-L] Cobol: can you create a new Fixed Binary file? > > Can HPCOBOL create a fixed binary file? > How do you specify in the source? > > Or is it "limited" to ascii files? > ___________________________________________________________________ > Keven Miller mailto:[log in to unmask] http://www.exegesys.com > > * To join/leave the list, search archives, change list settings, * > * etc., please visit http://raven.utc.edu/archives/hp3000-l.html * ##################################################################################### This e-mail message has been scanned for Viruses and Content and cleared by MailMarshal ##################################################################################### * To join/leave the list, search archives, change list settings, * * etc., please visit http://raven.utc.edu/archives/hp3000-l.html *
