P.S.

It would have been less confusing to me (although I'm sure there are
techincal reasons why everything isn't done to make things simple for
me!) if the table had been -

     < zero     CCL    ccode() returns -1

     > zero     CCG    ccode() returns 1

     = zero     CCE    ccode() returns 0
