After checking around, I went ahead and bought an inexpensive Quantum DLT4000 drive to put on our HP957. It came in a COMPAQ 3300 series SCSI enclosure. I tested the drive on my Windows XP system. Everything went smoothly; I could backup and restore files. I hooked it up to my test 3000 MFIO SCSI port and -- obvious SCSI bus problems. Made sure it was terminated properly. Got a better, shorter (1m) SCSI cable. Still no joy (although with some fooling around I was able to get ODE to show the drive ID string). In my latest effort, I pulled the drive out of the enclosure and tried booting the system with just the enclosure attached, powered up and terminated. Still having problems. Stuck the drive temporarily in the 3000's external drive bay and everything worked great. So what do you suppose is up with the external enclosure? It does have a small PCB in it that contains an active terminator IC. Do you suppose I don't need the external terminator? TIA.
