The time has come to begin the demolition and site work involved with the Universtiy Center Expansion and Renovation. J & J Contractors, the project's general contractor, has begun by installing a construction fence around the entire perimeter of the building and the affected adjoining areas. We are working with city traffic engineering and the contractor to get appropriate signage, "orange barrels", and the like to cope with this. For the first four months of construction, the bus/bike lane and on-street parking will be eliminated to allow the distribution piping work to take place (I hate to remind everyone of the Douglas Street work a while back, but that's what we're dealing with.) Lansing Street will be closed for to allow for construction of a new street and entrance plaza to Maclellan Gym. The excavation and demolition contractor will begin work on Monday, tearing down the Child Care building and removing the asphalt that we know as Lot 8. Please exercise safe pedestrian and driving habits during this latest "challenge." Thanks in advance for your patience. I'm thinking of just erecting large "Under Construction" signs at all campus entrances..... Janet ________________________________ Janet Spraker Asst.
