Since most MPE customers are indicating that they plan to migrate, HP's efforts are focused on helping businesses to evaluate and move forward to new HP platforms. Many larger shops are telling us they are heading towards HP-UX with either Oracle or HP Eloquence databases. Many others, especially those with small to mid-sized apps, are looking at HP Linux or Windows NT -- now a better choice than ever, on the strong new HP Proliant platform. New Initiatives And Announcements ========================== In April, HP made a number of announcements that will ease the migration path from the hp e3000 to other HP server platforms. These include: ·NEW! A/N class conversion kit availability has been extended for 3 years, through the end of 2006! ·NEW! CPU license for enterprise or mission critical HP-UX operating environments, have been discounted by 50%! ·NEW! HP is giving away 3 months of support to qualified customers who buy HP-UX or MPE/iX systems to be used in transition projects! ·NEW! New financing options for hp e3000 customers make transitions more cost effective! ·NEW! Invent9k is a publicly available HP-UX server for migrating software from MPE to HP-UX! ·NEW! Loaner program makes HP-UX servers available for up to 6 months at no charge! Database News ============= HP Eloquence is a relational database which features TurboIMAGE compatibility extensions, making it an invaluable tool for HP e3000 transition projects for small to mid-range customers. HP Eloquence has been evaluated by HP and its SIGSoftvend partners, and technically endorsed by SigIMAGE's Image/SQL Advisory Committee (ISAC). It is supported on HP-UX, Windows/NT and Linux. Platinum Partner Program ======================== HP announced a new Platinum Partners Program for North America and a corresponding Preferred Partners Program for Europe. NewsBriefs ============= Earlier this month, Hewlett-Packard Company announced a new low-interest, 36-month lease for all HP e3000 A- and N-class servers. Also, HP announced a new tape enclosure for the hp e3000, the TA5300. This product is now shipping. A new disc enclosure (the disk system 2300) will be available in mid-2002. In addition to support for native fibre channel and PA8700 support on our A and N-class systems, 7.5 will also include a number of new enhancements identified using the Interex SIB process, including >4GB LDEV1 Support, a :shutdown CI command, TurboIMAGE Scalability II, Large file datasets, and the inclusion of sendmail & webwise in FOS.
