I only spent one summer ('80, IIRC) with HP, at the Boise DMD (Disc Memory Division) as an intern building power supply cards for the pre-7933 79xx drives. One or two very odd front-line supervisors aside, I really enjoyed it and was really impressed with the whole show. There was a reduction-in-force initiative around that time, too - but it was accomplished through attrition only, as was the policy in those good ol' HP-Way days. Each of the the two divisions spent around $32K on their employee picnics that summer, BTW. I, too, have since made public comments that might prevent me from getting hired at HP (or a few other places, eh?) But as I said the first time I decided not to shave off my beard for job interviews, if I have to pretend to be someone I'm not, I probably shouldn't seek the job. Thing is, back in '80 I don't think my comments would have raised an eyebrow, at least not in Boise. -dtd [log in to unmask] on 01/03/2002 02:37:00 PM To: [log in to unmask]@Internet cc: (bcc: David T Darnell/CO/KAIPERM) Subject: Re: [HP3000-L] HP Colorado job I can't apply anymore but then again, I love my job and wouldn't want to work for HP anymore. Loved it in the 80's Some at CSY didn't like a comment I made about Winston. But sorry to inform Guy Paul, that he was the only person that didn't like my comment. Winston is a revered person to most. Hope you have your flame suit on. -----Original Message----- From: Michael Baier [mailto:[log in to unmask]] Sent: Thursday, December 20, 2001 15:09 To: [log in to unmask] Subject: Re: Old news but some crusty decisions made awhile back On Thu, 20 Dec 2001 12:34:48 -0800, Stan Sieler <[log in to unmask]> wrote: >Re: >> I think Joseph's post reveals the primary reason for all of the anger >> expressed on this list over the EOL of the HP e3000. We should collect money and give him a t-shirt saying "I KILLED MPE". * To join/leave the list, search archives, change list settings, * * etc., please visit http://raven.utc.edu/archives/hp3000-l.html * * To join/leave the list, search archives, change list settings, * * etc., please visit http://raven.utc.edu/archives/hp3000-l.html *
