To be honest, I have never tried a directory change without the NETCONTROL,
so you could be right.  Time for an experiment...

Really? I've never had to do that after making changes there, and everything
works fine. However, I've also never changed the IP address of an existing
device in the Network Directory, just added and deleted entries. So maybe
that makes a difference. hmmm...
