The short answer is that 'blksize' returns words and 'byteblksize' returns bytes. I assume from your "strange results" comment that you are experiencing something that isn't quite so straightforward. I have observed that the result on a file with variable records will be 4 bytes (2 words) greater than the value LISTF shows. I assume this reflects the length field. -----Original Message----- From: Donna Garverick [mailto:[log in to unmask]] Sent: Tuesday, April 10, 2001 2:08 PM To: [log in to unmask] Subject: finfo function hi all! i've got a question about the ci function -- finfo. there are two options available that reference blocksize. one is called 'blksize' (#15). the other is 'byteblksize' (#31). anyone know what the difference is between the two? i'm getting strange results using 'blksize'. - d -- Donna Garverick Sr. System Programmer 925-210-6631 [log in to unmask] "Unix _is_ user friendly.
