Jens, The Java Native Interface (JNI) is the API set used to allow a Java program to interact with 'native' code. The JNI is fully supported and operational in our Java implementation. Since JNI only defines interfaces for C and C++, I have also started work on an 'MPE Class Library' that permits any XL-resident code, written in any language, to be called from Java without needing to write JNI stubs. (Essentially, the MPE Class Library is itself a big generic JNI stub). If you're comfortable with C & C++ programming, a custom designed JNI program will give you the best performance; see a book such as 'Essential JNI' from PTR, or my Java tuturial on Jazz (one section covers JNI with examples). If you prefer trying the class library, it is available from the Interex Shared Source website for download.
