I'll ditto what Ted likes.... even if the HP Legal Eagles decide they have a problem, by the time that all gets sorted out they can have it and use it with our blessing..... ;-) > And I *don't* think that time is of the essence in this case. > We have one shot at this thing--let's take the time to make > it count. I agree we don't want to do a sloppy, half-baked job on this; there is little doubt in my mind that it is indeed a "one shot" thing... but I also do not discount the significant synergy and "multiplier effect" of being able to distribute copies of the WSJ with this ad at HPW. Doing it by HPW is not an absolute requirement, but IMO we should try pretty hard before we give up on that.... for right now let's see how the contributions come in; results of that should give us a good feel pretty quick; on whether this has a realistic chance of flying or not... FWIW, if anyone is interested: Through the generous efforts of usual suspect Michael Gueterman of Editcorp, I have managed to get my BETA WSJ ad up outside our firewall. The Snowy Owl graphic may or may not be in there yet, but use a little imagination if not, and take a look if you want at: http://www.editcorp.com/wsj/kens-ad-1.html Yes: I know the layout needs some "polish"; remember: This is still BETA rough draft; and I'm worthless as an artist... :-) ..... And of course already there are a couple changes that need to be made: (1) As Denys reminded us, HPW - Chicago '97 was the 25th anniversary party. HP 3000 is now 28 years old (think I would stay with the "28" instead of "over 25 years ago", but either is O.K. by me. (2) www.e3000.org , not www.mpe4ever.org (and yes: I really DID mean to put the URL at top of second column, next to Carly's name (sort of stealing Stan's minimalist idea ("click if you dare"; and merging that in). One question I got via private email: *IF* something like my above beta (or Wirt's version, for that matter) ends up getting the go: The reason(s) for including the Owl in the ad are: ???? The real work and email overload has gotten bad enough that while I really like the Owl and the "Who Knew ??" (if nothing else because of: The visual appeal; it's a good symbol; and it makes the reader think).. But confess I am hard put to come up with a precise recollection and rendition of other reasons for including the Owl; given the current state of the ads (whatever that is). Can anybody concisely recapitulate "why the Owl" ?? Ken Sletten
