You are correct. The 28696A FWD/SCSI adapter is NOT supported on any CIO machine, including the 980/400. Just a FYI: The only SCSI interface supported on CIO machines is the 27251A SE/SCSI board (now obsolete). If your system was built before JUNE 1991, it will require IODC Firware Ver: 8.0, part number A1756A, option 463 (also obsolete)to allow this interface to work. Sorry, no FWD support for this box just as you suspected. It really kinda scares me that the HPRC gave you such bad info about hardware compatability. Wow. Hope this helps, Chris_the_geek ---------- Can a 28696A device adapter be installed on a HP3000 980/400 running 5.5. HPRC says yes but I question that because of the old CIO based architecture of the 98O and in the past HP has said Fast wide connections are not supported on this box (The 28696A card is decribed as HP-PB FWD scsi-2 host adapter). The purpose of this would be to connect the 980 to an EMC Symmetrix. ********** Posted from www.3kworld.com ********** Posted from www.3kworld.com
