The reason I posted it to the list is that this is a test/crash & burn machine (and therefore hardware maintenance is not being used.) However THIS is a leading indicator that I should hook up a modem on ldev 21 and have the hardware vendor run the offline utility on the remote console. (This a good one for the HP3000 archives.) Tracy M. Johnson TRW Automotive Electronics Sensors & Components -----Original Message----- From: Bob J. [mailto:[log in to unmask]] That reboot suggestion was to correct the missing message after the formatvol - not to mount the disc. Several other folks have run into the "missing message" after using formatvol to sanitize discs before selling them to me. It seems to happen mostly with Mirvutil and 2Gb and 4Gb discs. Once the message shows up... or should that be doesn't show up.... there is no hope of addressing that unit with MPE until rebooting. Too bad it can't tell us. If SCRATCHVOL, NEWVOL/NEWSET, INITVOL, and FORMATVOL don't help your friendly CE can talk you through using an offline utility to overwrite the volume label.
