Sent on behalf of Chancellor Steve Angle:

Colleagues:

I am pleased to announce the shift of UTC’s Registrar from the division of Enrollment Management and Student Affairs (EMSA) to Academic Affairs, reporting to the Provost, effective immediately. This change in reporting structure aligns our university with best practice in higher education; accounts for the close relationship between the Registrar’s scope of work and academic affairs; and has been fully supported by our Provost, our immediate past Vice Chancellor for EMSA, and our interim Vice Chancellor for EMSA.

Until this change, UTC has been the only public university in Tennessee at which the Office of the Registrar was associated with enrollment management or student affairs. In every other case, the Registrar is associated with academic affairs. Additionally, as you may be aware, a significant function of the University Registrar’s office involves the interpretation and implementation of UTC’s academic policies. As such, the work is deeply intertwined with our division of Academic Affairs, and this new organizational home will facilitate the efficacy and efficiency of the Registrar’s work.

I am very grateful for the counsel, collaboration, and support of Provost Hale, interim Vice Chancellor Grisham, and our outstanding Registrar, Joel Wells, as we contemplated and now execute this change. This is one more way that we are able to change for the benefit of our students and the faculty and staff who serve them. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me directly.
