Sent on behalf of Vice Chancellor for Research Joanne Romagni:

Greetings colleagues,

I am pleased to announce that Dr. Cheryl Murphy has been named the new director of the UTC Office of Research Integrity (ORI).  Dr. Murphy joins the Office of Research Integrity with significant experience in working with faculty and students in her previous role as Faculty Associate and Lab Coordinator for the Department of Biology, Geology and Environmental Science.  Dr. Murphy has considerable experience in regulatory compliance roles. She has been an active member of the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC), having served as the IACUC Safety and Animal Facilities Manager for many years.  Dr. Murphy was a founding member of the Institutional Biosafety Committee and served as the departmental Chemical Hygiene and Safety Officer. Dr. Murphy holds a Ph.D. in Ecology from the University of Kansas.

Dr. Murphy joins an established team in the Office of Research Integrity that provides oversight for regulatory compliance and promotes the responsible and ethical conduct of research.  Dr. Murphy will continue to build on the work of ORI Interim Director David Deardorff, who will remain part of the ORI staff in an advisory capacity.  During his tenure as interim leader, David provided critical leadership in guiding UTC’s compliance functions through the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic, and he strengthened the capacity of UTC’s research compliance and security infrastructure.  Dr. Murphy will continue to build on that strong foundation to support student, staff and faculty researchers.

Please join me in welcoming Cheryl to her new role in the Office of Research Integrity.
