I don't know if you are in MPEX or not. But if you are, MPEX FINFO works
with temporary files differently than MPE FINFO does unless you set
MPEXFINFOANY = 1.

<snip>

But FINFO *does* work against temp files, at least interactively it does:

:LISTFILE TESTING
Non-existent MPE named file "TESTING.FRANK.SRN". (CIWARN 920)
:LISTFTEMP,2

TEMPORARY FILES FOR ARTHUR.SRN,FRANK

ACCOUNT=  SRN         GROUP=  FRANK

FILENAME  CODE  ------------LOGICAL RECORD-----------  ----SPACE----
                  SIZE TYP EOF LIMIT R/B SECTORS #X MX

TESTING           128W  FB           0       1023   1        0  0  * (TEMP)

:SETVAR FILEEXIST FINFO("TESTING",0)
:SHOWVAR FILEEXIST
FILEEXIST = TRUE
:SETVAR FILENAME FINFO("TESTING",1)
:SHOWVAR FILENAME
FILENAME = TESTING.FRANK.SRN
:SETVAR FILEEOF FINFO("TESTING",19)
:SHOWVAR FILEEOF
FILEEOF = 0

Perhaps I'm misunderstanding what Jeff has said...
