Wirt provided an interesting pointer:

http://www.engr.utexas.edu/uer/past/spring96/papers/paper_jk.html

For those with *way* too much time on their hands (and who
think they can find anything on the web (they may be right in
this case) ): Let's see if I can provide a trivial pursuit follow-on
to the saga of Galloping Gertie.. I quick-scanned Wirt's URL's,
so I *could* have missed it; but in all info on first incarnation of
the Tacoma Narrows Bridge that I have seen (now and earlier),
I can't recall ever having seen mention of what happened to the
part of Galloping Gertie's roadbed that did *NOT* oscillate itself
into Puget Sound that fateful day many long years ago.. sooo:

for.... for.... what the heck: A free beer or two at SIG3000 in
Feb 2000 to the *first* person who can correctly answer this ?:

Near what town and over what river is the part of Galloping
Gertie's roadbed that did NOT fall into Puget Sound still
carrying traffic to this very day ??

Deliberately vague hint: I only happen to know because I
have personally driven across it twice in the last 20 years....

happy searching.....
