Lee,
I do not know if this has been responded to yet or not.
HP will have a a web site that customers can access to get alert type of
information.
The site is called the Technical Issue Monitor (TIM) and is at the URL:
http://www.hp.com/y2ktim
An HP Description of Tim is as follows:
Mike Tilford, ASE
Hewlett-Packard CO
Falls Church, VA
Hewlett-Packard is offering a dedicated web site
during the Year
2000 transition to give customers prompt notice
about new or
unanticipated Year 2000-related incidents about HP
products, as
they occur around the world. This web site will be
known as
Hewlett-Packard’s Year 2000 Technical Issue Monitor.
We will add
additional features to our existing call-handling
process to identify,
analyze and post Year 2000 information we feel would
be useful
related to HP Computing Products. Issues that are
found to be
non-Year 2000 related will be updated and closed.
All HP customers can access the Year 2000 Technical
Issue
Monitor web site and will be able to view all
information posted. Use
of this web site indicates agreement to and users
are bound by the
Hewlett-Packard Web Site Terms of Use and all other
terms and
conditions published on the Year 2000 Technical
Issue Monitor web
site, including the Y2K Warranty Disclaimer.
The Year 2000 Technical Issue Monitor will be
located at
www.hp.com/y2ktim. For those customers who utilize
the IT
Resource Center (ITRC) at
www.ITresourcecenter.hp.com, a link is
available for Year 2000 Technical Issue Monitor
access. If
customers use KMINE and search on Y2K Technical
Issue Monitor,
they will find a link directing them to the Year
2000 Technical Issue
Monitor web site.
The Year 2000 Technical Issue Monitor will be
available from
December 15, 1999 through March 15, 2000. The web
site will be
updated daily, if necessary, with new Y2K related
issues and
information regarding workaround status and
resolution of existing
issues. During the rollover weekend, December 31,
1999 through
January 4, 2000, there will be a more frequent
update process so
that information is available to customers as issues
are validated.
This is how the process will work
Technical problems that customers report to HP’s
Response
Centers worldwide will undergo an initial screening
to assess
whether there is a Year 2000-related issue affecting
a particular HP
product. The Customer Response Centers will
categorize the call
and, if it qualifies for posting as a Year 2000
related incident, which
is not already described on our Year 2000 web site,
the information
will be posted on the Technical Issue Monitor web
site. The items
posted will not contain customer specific
information. The web site
will only contain specific details about Year 2000
issues that may
prove to be useful to other customers. As
workarounds and
resolutions are defined, dedicated personnel will
update the Year
2000 Technical Issue Monitor web site. We will also
update and
close issues that turn out to be non-Year 2000
related. The
Technical Issue Monitor is not intended to reflect
information
already available through HP’s Year 2000 web site.
The Year 2000
Technical Issue Monitor will not delay or interrupt
our standard
processes for solving problems.
In the event that the World Wide Web is not
accessible, we have
developed an alternative way for customers to
receive information
that is published on the Year 2000 Technical Issue
Monitor. As a
contingency, HP will have a voicemail box that will
be available for
all customers to access for a verbal presentation of
the
observations, workarounds and resolutions
Hewlett-Packard is
seeing around the world. This voicemail box will be
updated
simultaneously with the same information posted on
the Year 2000
Technical Issue Monitor web site.

Subject: HP Y2K alerts web site?
I just saw this in a recent edition of "Cheryl's List" -- an IBM-centric
newsletter published by Cheryl Watson:
IBM Alerts Web Page
IBM is providing a special Year 2000 Alerts Web page based on reported
worldwide customer issues during the period of Dec. 28 through Jan. 5,
2000. It will also track the availability of newly-released software
Program Temporary Fixes (PTFs) and other assistance to help address
date-related issues that may be reported on IBM Year 2000 ready
products. See <http://www.ibm.com/software/year2000/alert/>.
Does anyone know if HP is planning something similar?
