I have never experienced the system crash you speak of but the
undocumented HP utility FSCHECK should provide you with some clues as to
what is really going on.

I have a fax from HP support titled "Customer Information for Running
FSCHECK".  I could fax it to you if it would help.  I would always, of
course, suggest that you contact HP SUPPORT. Then again, it looks like
you ARE HP SUPPORT.

An interesting note, the first two sentences of this document states "In
most occurrances Files/Directories that are reported as corrupt wil be
lost.  Manually fixing these corrupted structures is practically
impossible."

Not good.
