To answer your implied questions, yes you do need to be on 6.0 to have
AutoRAID officially supported on MPE. I have used them in a beta
environment under previous releases, but it requires some extra hardware and
special arrangements with HP. Regarding RAID 1 vs RAID 5: the AutoRAID
arrays automatically divide the avaialable capacity between RAID 1 and RAID
5 and move data between the RAID levels based on usage. You can force the
entire array to operate at RAID 1 by setting the capacity low enough. In
fact, manipulating capacity is the only way you can exercise any control
over RAID level in these arrays. If you use RAID 5 you'll pay a price in
performance.

Please feel free to contact me offline if you have further questions.

Yes, Wirt with 4 hours to wait for HP to come on site I had plenty of time
to
ponder. This array sitting on the floor waiting to be installed is a HP
SureStore E Disk Array 12H with Autoraid. I believe HP said it can be
configured
either as raid1 or 5.
I also have a rather large box (standard shipment) from HP to upgrade from
5.5 to
6.0. The RC told me that 6.0 has two patches that need to be installed for
this
array, and they said softly "they are beta patches"!
So many options so little time to choose.
