Beth Dodd, Marilyn Willis, and Valerie Rutledge have recently been awarded
a $60,000 grant from the Tennessee Department of Education to continue the
Governor's School for Prospective Teachers in the summer of 2000. The
primary mission of this Governor's School program is to encourage
Tennessee's brightest students to consider teaching as their future
profession, a profession filled with exciting challenges and possibilities.

The Governor's School provides students with opportunities to achieve a
realistic understanding of teaching, to better understand themselves as
learners and future teachers, to critically evaluate effective teaching
strategies, and to plan, teach and critique short lessons. The program
has been successful for many years, thanks to the good work of Ms. Dodd,
Dr. Willis, Dr. Rutledge, and the excellent teachers who instruct the
students.

Congratulations go out to Beth, Marilyn, and Valerie for their recent
award. Please join in commending them and wishing them good luck this
summer!
