While I've learned never to say never in this business, I would
be extraordinarily surprised if there was still some hidden flaw
that prevented dynamic expansion from working with recent
versions of TurboIMAGE; as long disc space is available and
DDX is properly enabled..... And COBOL being the most widely
used language on the 3000, I have no doubt that DDX can work
with COBOL programs....

A few initial questions are probably in order:

(1) What kind of error (if any) are you seeing ?
(2) Do you have enough disc free space for the expansion ?
(3) What version of TurboIMAGE are you running ?
(4) Is the dataset in question a MASTER or a DETAIL ?

(5) If you go into DBUTIL, and do:
       SHOW <database_name> CAPACITY
does the last column of the report confirm DDX is on for the
dataset in question ?

(6) Do you have ADAGER or DBGENERAL ?? If 'Yes' is your
database tool happy with the state of your database in general
and the dataset in question in particular; i.e.: Does the database
pass consistency check ??... What does it show if you go into
CHANGE CAPACITY for the dataset in question (even if you do
not actually try and change the capacity) ??

A number of revisions of TurboIMAGE ago it was discovered that
there was a problem with DETAIL datasets, if the *last* DDX
event before reaching maximum capacity did not have the
DDX increment exactly equal to the remaining delta between
current capacity and maximum capacity.... Both ADAGER and
DBGENERAL should be able to check for this case and correct
it if that is your problem....
