We use a Metaframe (Citrix) Server to allow external access to our
Lan. It is a Server that allows the use of thin clients. All
applications and processing occurs at the Server. This allows for the
use of redundant PC's as the thin clients. Can be very useful as a
replacement for RAS. Not much good if there is a lot of screen
redrawing such as when browsing the WWW. We have webramp available
for that. You can shadow an online session (view the users screen),
this comes in very handy to resolve problems.

You do need some good hardware for the Server and it is expensive.
But can be worthwhile if you need to give RAS access.
