If I remember (this goes back a few years), you can't rely on checking the
condition code returned by the COMMAND intrinsic in CM on an MPE/XL or
MPE/iX system - you MUST check the ERROR parameter.  It was a bug, but I
don't know if it was ever fixed, and it sounds like it is still there and
you are bumping up against it.
