The lovely Dr. Halstead has advised me that many of you do not know who
Peter Schickele, our artist for Tuesday, November 9, 1999, is.

Mr. Schickele is widely-known as the creator of P.D.Q. Bach, the long-lost,
last and least son of Johann Sebastian Bach. P.D.Q. lived life backwards,
and his compositions include "Hansel and Gretel and Ted and Alice," an
opera, "The Abduction of Figaro," a flute choir rendition of Big Mama
Thornton's "Hound Dog"
and a piece for choir called, "The Seasonings."

Schickele, 64, who looks just like Santa Claus, beard and all, said in an
interview in July, "Classical music has ended up with this stuffy
reputation. The thing that's so sad about that is that most of the music
was written by passionate people. They were sometimes in their lifestyles
closer to what we associate with rock stars."

Schickele takes his music seriously, but that does not mean he writes all
serious music. I personally think he and Frank Zappa combined to make Wierd
Al Yankovic possible.

Schickele hosts a weekly radio program called "Schickele mix, where he
talks about the nature and form of music, and he plays examples from
Classical to rock and pop. He is not quite like Karl Haas.

Schickele will be joined by his friends, David Dusing and Michelle Eaton,
in an evening of Schickele's songs, some funny, some not, with tongues
often squarely in there cheeks.

I hope to see the hall full of the UTC community. And I also think you
should come for dinner at the Faculty club.

THE BOX OFFICE NUMBER IS 755-4269.

Perry's number at Le Grand Cru is 505-3391.

Thanks,
Kim
