I researched this many years ago & found that only display enhancements were
allowed ("ESC&dC" etc.) Turns out this was done to prevent malicious message
being sent to the system console followed by ESC+"d" which emulates hitting the
ENTER key which would transmit the line as if typed in at the console.
I guess they were guys like Art (hehe) around back then too ;-) (sorry Art,
couldn't' resist...)
