Good question.

We currently interface to an external PC based solution which seeks
authorisation from the acquiring bank and posts charges when orders
shipped. This is done in batches not online but thats because of time.

A question to ask is what level of validation are you looking for. Full
authorisation codes or simple format checking e.g. mod10. Simple
checking can be performing internally.
