The answer is, YES you can. BUT if when doing the connection you need to be
VERY fast with the hookup.  I've done this before, but it can create
problems with your network.
Since it is always better to do your network connections with the network
down you can configure the DTC within nmmgr, do your connections, and then
download the configuration to the new DTC (after bringing the network
backup).

I believe I may have missed a few (important) steps so anyone out there can
fill in the blanks.
