My favourite method is using the [homes] template section on smb.conf
but with a sligh tweak to not get to the user's home directory (ie MPE
home group) but one level above (ie to the "home account" with groups
looking like subdirectories from the PC viewpoint).
Here is a quote from the HP3000-L archives...

The above snippet refers to mgr.apache, but it will work for every
other user as well. You might want to add a directive like "read
list = manager.sys" to protect yourself from dragging PUB.SYS into
the (non-existent) Recycler by accident (in case you also connect
via \\your3k\manager.sys occasionally).
