Jim,
Let it be known that I am not stocking up on food and water nor do I have a
generator. I also have no plans to purchase one.
The firm that I work for has definitely done a full remediation. We have
assisted in the remediation efforts for our largest client and fully expect
them to meet their own internal, unpublished timetables for full compliance.
Suffice it to say that we don't expect everything to go without a hitch, but I
am fairly confident that it will.
I have validated that my bank is fully compliant to the point of asking to see
local testing verifications. This request was met with some quizzical
expressions, but they were fully willing to cooperate.
The city I live in (St. John) purchases virtually all of their electricity from
a large utility company that has stated they are compliant. In the event that
they are not, the city is ready and able to produce their own power by their
own coal powered plant located in town. Virtually every town in western Kansas
is in the same situation because years ago there was no alternative but for a
town to produce its' own electricity locally resulting in a generating station
in virtually every small town (1000 people or more). These power plants have
been kept up to supplement summer surges - and now they may be used as backup
facilities for Y2K. Since they are all virtual manual plants, there is little
likelihood of failure. St. John did take it a step further and do a full Y2K
test sequence just to ease the fear of the townspeople.
The water is from a town system that to this day continues to be supplied by a
non-computerized system.
See there is an advantage to "rural living".
