Hi, David
from rusty old memory
IIRC, Illegal ASCII digit (711?) is the Program move character X to numeric
field 9 and value is not numeric, and numeric field can not accept Alpha data
and display error message...
Just add IS NUMERIC(?) will avoid this problem, or inspect data ..
alphanumeric-field IS NUMERIC
move alphanumeric-field to numeric-field.
alphanumeric-field IS NOT NUMERIC
display alphanumeric-field.
Cheers

All,
I'm trying to trace a problem I'm having with Illegal ASCII digits running a
CM Cobol program. It's a huge program with lots of called Cobol Subroutines
held in a SL.
I have some very old crib sheets on tracing Illegal ASCII problems but, when
I follow them, I can't find any data relevant to the problem or I'm pointed
to a subroutine or area that is not correct.
Is my old documentation still "current" in an MPE Ix environment or is there
anything/anybody out there able to shed more light??
Many thanks in advance,
Dave Baxter
