I assume you mean files other than /dev/null, /dev/tty, and LDEV-based
things like /dev/tape.
"Streams" is a whole big complicated I/O API. I don't pretend to understand
it.
A related thing is DLPI, which is a networking API and I think it's on MPE
because Netware required it. Once upon a time I attempted to port the
tcpdump packet sniffer (which uses DLPI) to MPE, but I abandoned the effort
due to a lack of documentation about MPE's implementation of DLPI. But now
that I'm on the inside of CSY, hmmmm.....
