I feel the need to explain to the list what my motivation is, why/what
I am doing at Oracle, and what I think about the HP3000.

When I started here (European Global Support Centre for Oracle) I had
already been a HP3000 fan and loyal 'user' (read programmer thru system
manager) for over 15 years, and that was 3 years ago.

Here in the UK there are not too many HP3000 positions available, the
company I left has now moved away from the HP3000.

I came here to keep my HP3000 loyalty alive. I am doing a little bit
to help the machine survive.

I DO NOT WANT a 'which is best' thread between Oracle and Image, my
point is that an HP3000 site that was up against the wall to run Oracle
can stay on the HP3000. Forget costs/speed/anything else - I'm talking
loyalty. An extra string to the HP3000 bow.

Bottom line is that I am as loyal to the HP3000 as I am to my employer.

Richard has decided to stay with the HP3000, I am pleased about this!
There is on HP3000 that is not going anywhere.

I tend to lurk rather than post to the list, I think people see just
my Email address and not the 18 year HP3000 fan that has typed the
message. When I do post, I usually get agressive replies, for the
above reason I would guess.

Just to re-iterate, one of my memories......

A 7937 disc motor died on me once, the HP engineer arrived. I did not
recognise him. He looked at the drive, and contents of his box in
horror. He called the office.....looked up at me and said........
Are you Vince? - Answer Yes. The look of relief on his face was a
memorable part of my life. His next sentance was 'James says YOU will
be able to show me how to change this'. (Name changed for the usual
reasons).

I did show him, I even told him which board to swap out when the new
motor did not run very well. Basic electronics in that event, but he
was blown away that I could just point to it.

Vince. (Hopefully now better understood).
