Poet Laureate and Pulitzer Winner Mark Strand at UTC, Sept. 13

CHATTANOOGA - A poetry reading by Pulitzer Prize winner Mark Strand will be
held at UTC's Fine Arts Center Monday, Sept. 13 at 7:30 p.m.
        Strand served as Poet Laureate for the United States in 1990 and is
a member of the Academy of American Poets.  His most recent work, Blizzard
of One, was released in 1998 and earned him the 1999 Pulitzer Prize for
Poetry.  In 1975 he was awarded a Guggenheim Fellowship, followed by two
National Endowment or the Arts Fellowships.
        His collection of poems include Dark Harbor (1993), The Continuous
Life (1990), Selected Poems (1980), The Story of Our Lives (1973), The
Sargentville Notebook (1973), Darker (1970), Reasons for Moving (1968), and
Sleeping With One Eye Open (1964).  He has also published three children's
books.
        Strand is currently a faculty member with the University of Chicago.
        The event, which is free of charge, is sponsored by UTC's English
Department, and the University of Chattanooga Foundation Keese Lecture
Fund.
