In reply to my question on telnet to a DTC Port, Steve Dirickson kindly

What I really need to do is telnet to a particular port on a DTC.
We are currently using modem ports on one DTC to access control/console
ports on devices in our wiring closet. We have defined them as outbound
ports and defined an IP address for each port used. They are not the DTC
with the TAC installed.

We can then Telnet to that port and we have an effective serial connection
from our terminal using the Telnet Access Card Telnet Client which acts as
if we had directly connected the terminal to the device we wish to control.

We can also telnet to it using a telnet client on a PC (Reflection), but I
am not sure who or what is providing the Telnet Daemon at this point.

If we remove the TAC card to go to Host based DTC management, would we still
be able to telnet to a particular DTC port, or even be able to define an IP
address to it? That is my real question.

Any thoughts from the gurus out there would be appreciated.

My words are from my thoughts and no-one else, because they have no idea
what I think. Good thing too.
