Hello ,
At the risk of being bothersome, I wanted to give you one last
reminder about the performance of Sandip Burman, which will be in the Hayes
Concert Hall on Thursday, September 2, at 8 pm.
Sandip Burman is an internationally acclaimed virtuoso on the
Indian tabla drums, which are the small, metal hand drums which form the
rhythmic basis for most of the traditional music of India. In his country
he is a "Buddy Rich" of his instruments, and is extremely well known. He
has been on this continent for the past several months performing and
recording with Glen Velez, Alex Acuna, Bela Fleck, Ravi Shankar, and many
others. He is also a visiting faculty member at the Rotterdam Conservatory
in Holland.
Sandip will be performing on this campus with bamboo flute
recording artist John Wubbenhorst, with whom he has recently given a series
of concerts at the Smithsonian in Washington D.C. To my knowledge, Mr.
Burman is the most highly acclaimed Indian musician to visit this city in
many years. Don't miss this chance to see him talk about his music and
perform live. This concert is funded in part by UTC Speakers and Special
Events. The program is free and the public is invited to attend.
