NM File Close Logging

I have two questions about NM File Close logging (105=ON).

When I turn it on, the log files build astronomically, a switchlog occurs every half-hour.

What are the opinions of users of why it should be turned on, at all?

Is this the only or best way to determine who was the last user to close a file?
