I ran across an ad in Information Week about a new tape technology
company, VXA, by Ecrix Technologies. With the recent traffic
concerning DDS-3 problems (which I am considering buying), it looks
like something interesting.

Our biggest fear when doing backups is that a backup tape we create
might not be restorable, either on the same drive that created it, or
more likely on a second similar drive. VXA claims to be insensitive to
the tape head alignment problems which seem to be responsible for
these restore problems.

VXA uses the same 8mm tape media as AIT (AME with DLC). It doesn't say
anything about the Memory-in-cartridge chips that AIT uses.

Anyway, has anyone heard anything about this company, or it's VXA tape
products? I'd be interested in hearing anything. The URL to visit for
information is vxatape.com (no leading www. !!)
