I absolutely concur with Doug. Except for emergency replacements
(fortunately, very few and far between), we spin-test all new disk devices
for at least seven (7) days as a discrete volumeset, and we include several
store/restore tasks.

Subject: Re: [HP3000-L] Adding a disk to system volume

I would add one more thing here. NEVER, NEVER, NEVER add a new disk to a
production volume set without testing it first. The frequency of drives
that
fail within the first several hours/days of use is much too high to risk
corrupting an entire volume set. This applies to the system volume set and
user volumes.
