The other products include TurboSTORE from HP (the online portion needs to be purchased) and the other is RoadRunner from Tymlabs. Orbit is a great solution and you may not be using all of its functionality including the online portion of the software.

Hi Bob,

it is very simple:

the "important" step (physical installation) will be done by HP. fine ;-)

But they need to know where to plug in the disk. If it is a SCSI disk and
you have already a SCSI card there having a free port than you need to go
to SYSGEN, IO, AD and add the disk using the command like AD 4 path=x/x.x.x
id=ST15150N(or equiv.)
where 4 is the LDEV number (if still free).

Then you shutdown the system so that HP can do the physical part. Please
make sure that the SCSI address has been set right on the disk.

Reboot the system, check whether the disk has been mounted.
DSTAT ALL: new disk should be in loaner state.
VOLUTIL
    scratchvol 4
    newvol mpexl_system_volume_set:member4 4 x y (4 is ldev again, x perm
space, y trans space%).

DSTAT ALL should know the disk as belonging to the SysVol.

Utilization will start automatically so that you do not need any restore.

Hope that helps,
best regards, Andreas Schmidt, CSC, Germany

P.S. just did this on Monday in exchanging old disks by a SCSI disk. In
this exercise I had to install the box you won't need!

Subject: Adding a disk to system volume

My first hardware job as system manager here will be adding
a new disk to our 937 system.
It is a new 4GB drive who's model number is not in IODFAULT,
but it's predecessor is and the response centre has advised me
that it should be okay to use it.
From what I have read thus far it seems should be a fairly simple
affair, but since all my hardware experience has been on the classic
machines and the manuals are less than clear I find myself doubting
that I haven't missed something. HP will be doing the physical
installation.
Could someone be so kind as to list the required/suggested steps in
adding a new drive to the system volume set? It will be the fourth disk
in the system, and we are not using any private volumes.
TIA
Bob Comeau
