Actually, it;s not at all unusual for a scanner to transpose, drop or
otherwise mangle characters.

It may also have been "cleaned up" by hand.

Even HP scanners have this problem -- it's all in the OCR software
that "reads" the text.  My software is by Xerox.  It's quite
accurate, but it does have the occasional burp.

There are many reasons that typos might happen like that.  I'll tell
ya what - the next time I OCR a document here, I'll post the unedited
results ;-)  Those without scanners and OCR software will be mighty
surprised at the accuracy - but also at some of the FEW errors that
do make it in.
