Unfortunately, I think this is another case of MPE's help subsystem not
keeping up with changes. IIRC, :RENAME was enhanced in 5.5 PP4 to allow
the operation if the user had read (and lock?) access to the source file
and write access to the location for the target file -- which is how
Vesoft's MPEX %RENAME has always worked. If I'm wrong, someone please
correct me -- I didn't verify this from the Communicator(s).

Subject: [HP3000-L] MPE/iX Rename command problem.

Hello all,

I have just noticed an anomoly with the RENAME command on
our system, and was wondering if anybody else had seen it.

We are on 5.5 PP6.

It seems that the RENAME command no longer requires you to be
the creator of the file in order to perform the rename. :)) ... :((

The MPE help says,

MPE Files To rename an MPE file, you must be the file's
creator and have exclusive access to the file. If
you specify groupname or acctname, you must have
save access to the group or account. Users with
System Manager (SM) capability can rename any file
to any location on the system.

which is contrary to the actual behaviour on our system.

Example :-

:listuser !hpuser
