Hi everyone,

        First time post to this list, so apologies if there is such a
thing as a HP Newcomers FAQ. I'm a student studying an HND in
Computer Studies, and recently I acquired an HP3000 with two disk
units (as detailed in the header). I have the keys, all the neccesary
cables for connecting the drives, and two RS232 panels - everything
looks pretty straight forward, but I can't

A) Access the console with any settings, or maybe it's just me.
B) Figure out _exactly_ the right way round for all the cables. It's
    a morass of cabling round there.

There is a port labelled HP1B, I assume this is for connecting the
drive units via the cables labelled HP10833A. But do the drives get
daisy chained, and if so, which one goes first in the chain, 0 or 1?
(I assume 0, but more on this later).

Also available is a port labelled ATP, with a huge connector for the
RS232 Panels. On the panel are 8 DB25 ports, labelled 0-4M and 0-4DC.
Modem and Direct connection respectively perhaps?

There is a second panel with the ports simply labelled 1-8.

When the machine is powered on, the activity and fault lights stay lit
for approx 5 seconds, then the fault light flashes intermittently (3
flashes every couple of seconds) after about 10 seconds of Activity.

I noticed on the key card that there is a reference card available;
Can anyone provide the information on this?

Can anybody supply any information at all to help me get this machine
running and operative? I'd be most grateful if anyone could, as it's a
shame to miss out on the experience afforded by such a powerful
machine. Any pointers, Information or FAQ details, anything at all
would be great, as I am _totally_ lost and can't find any information
on startup and setup no matter where I look or what search engine I
use.
