Shane,

You asked what the dates were used for. My answer: I don't know for
sure. Everythink I have uncovered in the KSAM manual indicates that the
dates are merely for "informational purposes". There are five dates
stored by KSAM. The first three are for the KSAM key file and are
identical to data stored and displayed for "FGETINFO" for a standard
file (Creation date, modification date, and access date). The fourth
date, as I understand it, is a date indicating when physical keys were
started being added to the file (this is the 'COUNT' date). The fifth
date is a "RESET DATE" which corresponds to the last date that a
"KEYINFO" recovery action was performed on the file.

What I do know is that they are dates relative to 1900. As a result, if
you have a date in Y2K the information is correctly display.

For instance, I built the a file with the system date set to 3-13-2001.
Here's how the KSAMUTIL verify looks for it:

   WHICH (1=FILE INFO, 2=KSAM PARAMETERS, 3=KSAM CONTROL, 4=ALL)? 3

   DATA FILE = KX VERSION= A.7.4
   KEY CREATED= 72/101 12: 1:40.1 KEY ACCESS= 72/101 12: 1:46.5
   KEY CHANGED= 72/101 12: 1:40.1 COUNT START= 72/101 12: 1:40.2
   DATA RECS = 0 DATA BLOCKS= 0 END BLK WDS=
0
   ... (rest of data clipped)

The same files built with 1999 dates appear as...

   >verify kx

   WHICH (1=FILE INFO, 2=KSAM PARAMETERS, 3=KSAM CONTROL, 4=ALL)?3

   DATA FILE = KX VERSION= A.7.4
   KEY CREATED=113/'99 7:24: 2.2 KEY ACCESS= 113/'99 7:24: 7.5
   KEY CHANGED=113/'99 7:24: 2.3 COUNT START=113/'99 7:24: 2.3
   DATA RECS = 0 DATA BLOCKS= 0 END BLK WDS=
0
   ... (rest of data clipped)

Consequently, all date calculations necessary should complete without a
problem.

Glenn
