KSAM/3000 is CM KSAM. NMKSAM (KSAM/XL) is Y2K ready (IMAGE uses it for
b-tree indexes and IMAGE is Y2K ready).
One should be able to change the actual data files from KSAM/3000 to
NMKSAM without affecting the application providing the application uses
the standard supported intrinsics to access the files. However, if the
application drives KSAMUTIL, this utility no longer applies to NMKSAM
and this aspect of the application will not function properly.
Converting to NMKSAM involves simply building the new files and copying
the data using a utility (FCOPY). It is best to issue a file equation
for a new NMKSAM file, including the key information and the 'KSAMXL'
filecode. Then simply issue an FCOPY command to copy from the existing
KSAM/3000 file to this new form:
FCOPY FROM=<oldfile>;TO=*NEWKSAM;NEW
Note: I've not done this recently so am unsure of the syntax... But it
is better to build the new file as a part of copying the data than it is
to build the file separately then copy the data as a 2-step process.

Today in 1864 - Congress approved use of the motto
"In God We Trust" on U.S. coins.
(I wonder if the ACLU has filed suit on this one yet?)
(Speaking of which, did you know that the ACLU is suing to stop
public school, military units, etc. from sponsoring Cub/Boy
Scout groups because Cub/Boy Scouts have non-demoninational
prayer. The suit is filed on the grounds of separation of
church and state. What's next? Suing the military because
they have a chaplin? Suing Congress because they open with
a prayer? Somebody give these people something productive
to do!)
