Are there any Javascript gurus lurking out there?

I've got an html form with three frames on it - top, left and right. In a JS
function in the right frame, I want to access the selected value of a drop-down
box in the left frame but hit a security violation ("Permission denied"). I'm
using IE4.

Logically, this seems quite a reasonable security check but does anyone have any
ideas on how to circumvent it?

TIA.

Mark W.
