Thanks Christiane but the BLDPARMS file only specifies the attributes of the
file (recordsize, numrecs etc) and
not the security that is applied to the resulting file. On "standard" unix, this
is done using some kind
of .profile file, setting the value for umask. I wonder if there is anything
similar on the 3000?

Hi Mark,
the default ftp file creation characteristics need to reside in file
BLDPARMS.ARPA.SYS.
A sample for that is in file BLDSAMP.ARPA.SYS.
Just copy BLDSAMP to BLDPARMS and modify it according to what you need
