Sure you do, if you consider "content".  How many times have we made an 72
character wide flat file with only one column of part numbers... say 18
characters wide?  That 54 characters per record of nothing but spaces.

(Of course I'm just mouthing off.  It can be cured with variable width
files or more judicious use of chacter width.)
