I'm going to assume another motive. Editing some string like a
description without retyping the entire line.
Why not use the procedure from Robelle for editing a string. I think
that procedure is public.

Not necessarily... if the issue is whether the application contains
provisions for executing MPE commands (such as using a ":" in front of a
command in QEDIT for example), then having REDO available for typos (my
specialty these days) might be a good feature.
Just a thought.
