:> There is a recently-opened quarry in Gadsden, AL, with a dive shop
on
:> site.
:
:Is that the place that is (or was) run by John Valdez? He used to own
:dive shops in Anniston and Pelham - maybe one in Birmingham, too. The
:Pelham shop got blown down by a tornado several years ago.

Yep this is John's place. I believe that he has closed his shop in
Anniston or he had about three years ago. Might have reopened it by
now though.

:
:If it's the same one, then I believe it's actually in Glencoe (just
:outside of Gadsden). I dove it once about five years ago - it is deep
:and cold, but the water is very clear at depth. There is an easy
:shore entry where the quarry road goes in.

This is the place.

:
:At the time I dove it, there was no shop or facilities on site - we
:just called up John at his shop, and he met us over there. There
:wasn't a whole lot to look at - a sunken houseboat and some training
:platforms was about it. There is probably more stuff there now, if it
:is open as a commercial place.

He finally got a shop set up on site. I think he's got a web page up
now too. He has moved the entrance to the quarry via some steps and a
nice deck on the water.
